Mortals Stumble in Darkness ... Heroes Light the Way!

Welcome to livingarcanis.com. This site hosts adventures, campaign rules and documentation, and other important information for players and organizers of the LIVING ARCANIS shared-world roleplaying campaign.

LIVING ARCANIS adventures are available for conventions, game days, retail store events, and home games. The campaign is sponsored and managed by Paradigm Concepts in support of its Arcanis product line. Both Arcanis and LIVING ARCANIS are fully compatible with the v3.5 edition of the world's most popular tabletop roleplaying game.

Our plans for 2008 and beyond are bigger and better than ever. Players, GMs, and convention organizers should not notice any decrease in adventure releases -- in fact, with the launch of the Invisible Kings program, we will have more adventures in 2008 than in any previous year! We will also continue to offer a full schedule of LIVING ARCANIS events at our traditional "big shows" including Origins 2008 and Gen Con Indianapolis 2008.

General Campaign News and Announcements
12 May 2008: Yet more things are dug out of our vaults. Today sees the release of two Paldaris adventures (Death and Fortunes), alongside their Domain Description Document. We also have the release of "Said My Name is Disturbance", the latest release from the Metra IKs. The Paldaris adventures can be found on the Paldaris page while the Metra adventure can be found on the Metra page.

10 April 2008: Continuing our excavation of the adventure vault, we discover LA-SP4-18 A Parting of Mists by Joe Cirillo (of Metra IK fame) and Scott Charlton (aka Tiny Poisonous Fish). This adventure begins in Plexus and quickly moves to the Western Lands, so it might be of interest to characters who are natives of the IK domains of Metra or Plexus, although this is not an Invisible Kings adventure per se. It should definitely be of interest to characters of Kio or Undir heritage. This two-round Standard scenario for APLs 2 through 13 may be downloaded from the Year Four Adventures Page.

09 April 2008: We're cleaning out the adventure vaults! Over the next week you can expect to see most of the older Year 3 and Year 4 adventures that have not previously been generally available showing up on the website. Many thanks to our cadre of volunteer editors who have been helping to clear the long-standing adventure backlog.

Today we have the Year Three adventure LA-SP3-11 Between the Candle and the Light by Jack Cooper (Standard, 2 rounds, APLs 2-14) and the Year Four adventure LA-SP4-10 Heart of the Matter by Matt Blank (Standard, 1 round, APLs 2-13) for your adventuring pleasure.

06 April 2008: The fourth adventure from the Invisible Kings of Midake has been released for general play. Iwa is a Standard scenario for characters of 1st to 11th level. This adventure has a heavy emphasis on investigation and roleplaying. You can download it from the Midake Home Page. (Updated 09 April 2008: A set of full-size 1" scale battle maps have been added as an optional download for this adventure. The total download of about 20 MB has been broken into 3 separate files. These files are not required to run the adventure, but if you have the ability to print them, you won't need to bring a battle mat!)

28 March 2008: Welcome to Plexus, Gateway to the West! The Plexus Domain Description Document and the first two Plexus Invisible Kings adventures are now available for download. Little Fish, Where Art Thou? is a one-round Standard scenario for 1st through 11th level characters. A Play on Words is a one-round Introductory scenario for 1st through 5th level characters. Both adventures and the Domain document can be downloaded from the Plexus Home Page.

28 March 2008, Take 2: The Emerald Society Invisible Kings are back with two new adventures! Return to Dig 17 in Twilight Always Falls (one-round Standard for characters of 1st through 10th level) and explore the myserious Isle of Saura (two-round Crawl for characters of 1st through 8th level). Both of these adventures may be downloaded from the Emerald Society Home Page.

04 March 2008: We have made a small change to the adventure LA-SP5-07 Dedication to remove an erroneous reference. The val'Mordane family doesn't have a secret path in and out of Nishanpur (well, they probably have several, but even so, they're not sharing... and the key events of the adventure occur outside the city, regardless). The other details of the adventure are unchanged. You can download this scenario from the Year 5 Adventures page.

06 February 2008: We have made a small update to the official errata file for Psionics Unbound. You can download the new version from the Campaign Rules page. (The new text pertains to the Sansho Hunter class, and has been highlighted to make it clear what was added.)

05 February 2008: Due to some questions and concerns that were raised by players following the initial release of the February 2008 Rules Update, we have revised the Rules Update. Please make sure you download the corrected version, as it supersedes the original version. The February Rules Update still takes effect on 07 February 2008.

We have also made a minor adjustment to the Marketplace and Item Creation Guide. The only change is the addition of a note that magic items may not be purchased or crafted from special materials unless the item's description specifically allows it. The reason for this is that magic items made from special materials would (by definition) be non-standard items, and non-standard items may not be purchased or crafted by PCs without campaign documentation. If you have any questions about this, please contact the campaign staff.

03 February 2008: Today is a big day for updates to the campaign rules. First, we have the February 2008 Rules Update, which formally adopts the Magic of Arcanis errata and makes Psionics Unbound the official psionics resource for the campaign (replacing the Expanded Psionics Handbook / d20 Psionics SRD). This Rules Update becomes effective for the campaign on 07 February 2008. You can download the errata files and check out all the previous campaign Rules Updates on the Rules Page.

We also have a new February 2008 Marketplace and Item Creation Guide, which adds new material from Psionics Unbound and makes some previously-restricted magical and psionic items open for purchase and crafting. Any convention, game day, or retail store game that has been approved for a Marketplace should use the new version instead of any older version, effective immediately. If you organize conventions, game days, or retail store events, and you would like to get a Marketplace for your event, please join the LA Convention Support mailing list for more information.

To go along with the new Marketplace, we also have a new set of Supply Run rules and certificates. Supply Run certificates are usable by any character in any adventure with no special permission required (other than the GM's signature). Now you can buy that wand of cure light wounds or +1 amulet of mighty fists you've always wanted without having to wait for a Marketplace to arrive in your area. You can download all the new files from the Marketplace page.

Finally, we have a new set of Life Quest Certficates for those dark-kin who are on the Path of Redemption and wish to continue their journey. (If you don't have any idea what this refers to, you probably haven't read Legacy of Damnation.) To be clear, you MUST have the original Life Quest certificate from the appropriate scenario before you can take advantage of these new certificates. Each stage of the Life Quest must be completed in order, and the first few stages are unlocked by a certificate that you gain from playing a specific adventure. You cannot arbitrarily decide to begin the Life Quest without first playing that adventure.

02 February 2008: Some GMs have asked us if there are any maps for the adventure Drinking Deeply from the Chalice of Midnight, which is included as part of the Year One compilation Year of Ill Harvest. We were unable to include this map due to space limitations, but it's been added to the print products page as a free download.

01 February 2008: Welcome to the Eternal Empire! A series of FIVE Invisible Kings adventures set in the Domain of the Haina Empire are now available for general play. You may download these adventures from the Haina Empire's home page and begin your explorations of the former Sealed Lands beyond the fallen Wall of the Gods.

Note that the first adventure, Behind Enemy Lines, is only for characters who are NOT natives of the Empire, while the second adventure, Home Sweet Haina, is only for characters who ARE natives. The third through fifth adventures accommodate any mixture of native and non-native characters, but it's strongly recommended that all characters play the appropriate starting adventure (either #1 or #2) before embarking on the rest of the series.

27 January 2008: We have added the official errata and clarifications file for Psionics Unbound to the Campaign Rules page. These corrections apply equally to all editions of the sourcebook (the version that was sold directly by PCI at conventions in 2007, the PDF version that is available from various online stores, and the print version that is currently available in finer hobby stores worldwide).

19 January 2008: We are still in the process of finalizing and uploading the latest batch of Invisible Kings adventures. (Details will go here after adventure files have been uploaded and confirmed; placeholders are currently visible. Total of 4 adventures left to upload -- 2 Paldaris, 1 Emerald Society, and 1 Plexus. Placeholders have also been added for the IK adventures that are currently in the approval/editing pipeline -- 1 Lustia, 1 Emerald Society, 1 Midake, and 2 Plexus.)

14 January 2008: The second Invisible Kings module from the Domain of Atria has been released for general play. Water Under the Bridge by Jarrod Moschner is a one-round Introductory adventure for characters of 1st through 5th level. It may be downloaded from the Atria Domain page.

13 January 2008: Today we are pleased to announce the availability of two "core" adventures for general play. Both of these adventures are billed as two-rounders because they have just enough combat encounters to cause them to run a bit too long for a single four-hour convention slot.  Five or six hours should be sufficient to complete either of these adventures, and particularly powerful tables might be able to finish in four hours, but we recommend that you allow extra time so that you can also enjoy the story elements.

The first adventure is LA-SP5-07 Dedication by Sean Esterline. This is a two-round continuous-play Crawl (with strong story elements) which is a "special mission" of sorts for Beltinian Exorcists and Sarishan Binders. It is not necessary to have a character of either class at the table, but if you have a character who is (or aspires to become) a member of either of these prestige classes, we recommend that you wait to play this adventure until that character is of an appropriate level. This adventure is only playable by characters of 10th level and higher (APLs 11-21). You can download it from the Year 5 Adventures page.

The second is LA-SP4-12 Blood-Soaked Dawn by James Zwiers. This is a two-round continuous-play Crawl (very combat-intensive) that indirectly follows up on the events of the Battle of Sicaris. The adventure eventually makes its way to Freeport, so characters who are not welcome in Freeport might find themselves in a difficult situation.  This  scenario is the first of a series of four Freeport adventures by James Zwiers. This adventure is for characters of 1st through 12th level (APLs 2-11). You can download it from the Year 4 Adventures page.

06 January 2008: Happy new year! We are pleased to present the first public release of the errata for Magic of Arcanis. This errata file is valid for both the original hardcover printing and the subsequent softcover printing of the sourcebook. Note, however, that the errata will not become official for LIVING ARCANIS until it is adopted into the campaign with a Rules Update. Any existing updates to Magic of Arcanis from previous Rules Updates remain valid for the campaign.

(As a reminder, the August 2007 Rules Update adopted the errata for Legacy of Damnation and Ssethregore: In the Coils of the Serpent Empire. If you missed any of the prior Rules Updates or official errata files, they are all available from the Campaign Rules page.)
